Big White, Kelowna, BC
A short winter trip to Big White, the ski-in, ski-out resort an hour southeast of Kelowna in British Columbia's Okanagan. The mountain brings the ski days, with the dry powder it's known for, trees and glades all over and long open runs alongside the groomers. The base puts the skiing at the door of the condo, and the village sits a gondola ride above, where the restaurants are and the evenings run quiet and family-oriented rather than late. Four nights given over almost entirely to the skiing.
A few days of skiing out West over a winter break, with a direct flight, a Canadian resort and a mountain new to the family.
It was winter break for my two older boys at university, and I wanted to take them skiing out West for a few days. They wanted some time at home first, so we settled on three days on the mountain. We wanted a direct flight, somewhere not too far, and to stay in Canada. The boys had never been to Big White, near Kelowna, and that made the decision. My husband was able to join in the end, and our youngest stayed home as he still had school. We had planned for three days on the mountain. A major winter storm in Toronto cut that to two.
