Whistler, BC & Seattle, WA
A winter trip to Whistler and Seattle that mixes skiing, hockey and football over the stretch between Christmas and New Year's. Whistler gives the week its mountain start, with two mountains linked by the Peak 2 Peak gondola and easy evenings in the village. Seattle turns to the city, with NHL hockey, New Year's Eve downtown and the Seahawks the next day, and the days in between free for Pike Place and the planes at the flight museum.
Built around a Seahawks home game on New Year's Day, with a Whistler ski leg added at the front to make the most of already being on the west coast.
This trip started with the Seahawks. Our two younger boys are huge fans, so we decided to surprise them at Christmas with a trip to Seattle to see a home game on New Year’s Day.
Once we started looking at the dates, the rest of the trip began to take shape. The Kraken were playing a couple of nights earlier, New Year’s Eve fell in the middle, and suddenly Seattle felt like more than a one-game stop. We also wanted to add skiing if we could, so Whistler made sense at the front end and gave us a couple of days on the mountain before heading south.
