New York City, NY
December in New York as the holiday season begins, with decorated streets, twinkling lights and time to wander. The days move from Midtown's storefronts dressed for Christmas to the Upper West Side and long walks through the park. Skaters circle the Wollman Rink in winter sun, and there's a turn on the ice beneath the tree at Rockefeller Center. Evenings belong to busy neighbourhood dining rooms in Hell's Kitchen and the Village.
A return to New York in early December, with the Christmas season as the reason to go and skating at Rockefeller Center high on the list.
My husband and I decided on a quick getaway to New York at the beginning of December. We'd been to New York several times before, but this time we wanted to enjoy some of the Christmas atmosphere and make time for a few experiences we hadn't done on previous trips.
We chose Midtown as our base, close to Central Park, Rockefeller Center and many of the shops known for their holiday displays, and anywhere else we could get to by taxi or on the subway.
