Barbados
South Coast (Maxwell Beach)
Five nights on Barbados's south coast, built on the easiest pleasures of the island: warm days, lazy beach time and long evenings over dinner. The days stay on the sand, with walks along quiet roads into St. Lawrence Gap and one morning under sail along the west coast, snorkelling on the way. Sunset dinners move around the island, over the rocks, on the beach and up on a bluff, and the last night is toes in the sand and live music.
Longtime girlfriends on an annual spring escape south, working through the Caribbean, with Barbados chosen for its easy warmth and direct flights.
Over the years our girls' trips have taken many forms (ski weekends, city breaks, beach holidays and cottage retreats), but this group, connected through overlapping friendships since university, has stayed committed to keeping these trips non-negotiable. More recently we've landed on an annual spring escape south, slowly making our way through the Caribbean.
Several of us had been to Barbados before and loved the island's blend of laid-back beach culture, British influence and great restaurants. It sits far enough south to guarantee proper warmth and direct flights from Toronto made it an easy choice.
We're mindful of cost and look for properties that are comfortable, well-located and easy to settle into. A beachfront location and room configurations that worked for the group were non-negotiable. Once accommodation was settled the itinerary followed. Days were kept open and easy.
Simple, warm and exactly what a girls' trip should be.
