Cuixmala

Costalegre Coast at Cuixmala, Mexico

Beach + Coast Resort Condé Nast Traveler Awards
Worth Considering

Originally built as the private estate of Sir James Goldsmith, Cuixmala stretches across more than 30,000 acres of Mexico's Pacific coast and still feels exactly like that: someone's extraordinary home, opened to guests. The centerpiece, Casa Cuixmala, is a sprawling villa modeled after the Hagia Sophia, its blue-and-yellow dome rising above five kilometres of private beach. Zebras and crocodiles roam the reserve. Forty-three rooms range from casitas overlooking the coconut plantation to hilltop villas with their own pools. The biodynamic farm and the Pacific both feed the kitchen. Five kilometres of private beach complete the picture.

What It Is

A luxury resort inside a protected biosphere reserve on the Pacific coast.

What It Is Not

The easy, all-inclusive Pacific beach experience.

Worth Considering

If you want a private nature reserve on the Pacific coast and understand that the remoteness and scale are the point, not a compromise.
