Paris
This Paris route brings together shopping, long lunches and nights out, with each day given to a different part of the city. Boulevard Haussmann's department stores and rooftops, a walk from rue Saint-Honoré through the Tuileries to Saint-Germain, the independent shops of Le Marais and Trocadéro with the Eiffel Tower across the river set the shape. Evenings swing from a warm neighbourhood restaurant in the 17th to the old Paris stock exchange, where a DJ turns dinner into a night out.
Seven friends who all knew Paris already gave the four nights to time together rather than sightseeing, a neighbourhood a day, with the restaurants that mattered booked well ahead.
A girls' trip to Paris, and we had all been before, some of us several times, so this was never going to be a sightseeing trip in the traditional sense. We weren't trying to cover the major landmarks or build our days around museums and monuments. Instead, we wanted time together, a few things planned each day, lots of walking and shopping, and some really good meals and nights out. We chose a different part of the city most days, booked the restaurants we cared about ahead of time, and left the rest fairly loose.
