London
Two days in London that still give the big sights their due, mostly on foot. One wet morning runs from Buckingham Palace down Whitehall to the Churchill War Rooms and Big Ben; the next starts at the Tower of London and its Crown Jewels before a guided walk through the City's historic pubs. A West End show, a walk-in hour at the hotel's bowling alley and a ten-seat sushi counter fill the evenings.
A first London for a 20-year-old, shaped around his father's working days: walkable throughout, quick on the sights, with the pub tour as the centrepiece.
This one gets its own route because it was really its own little pocket of a trip. We were coming from Austria, and London was the easiest spot for the three of us to all fly out of: my husband back to Toronto, one of my sons to France before starting his third-year university exchange in Istanbul, and me to Oman. My husband was working and my son was still sorting out his accommodation in Turkey, so that all had to get mixed into the days. Three nights on paper, but really only two days.
That’s the first look. Members see the rest of this route.
