Barbados
West Coast Base
One hotel on the west coast of Barbados, with lazy days by the pool and the sea and something new to see most days. Outings reach sea cave pools below the cliffs at the northern tip and green monkeys close enough to feed by hand. A surf lesson comes with turtles in the water alongside, and a private boat spends four hours wherever the day leads. Evenings range from casual beach spots to candlelit tables by the sea.
A family week with an 18-year-old and a friend in tow, wanting a destination that could hold its own beyond the beach.
This was a family trip with our eighteen-year-old and a friend along, looking for a destination that could balance beach time with proper island exploration and enough activity to keep the kids engaged. We had originally booked for Christmas and had to postpone, which left us with extra credit and more nights than we would have planned for. It turned out to be a good problem to have.
