Comala & Cuixmala
Two sister properties, one inland and one on the coast, split the trip into two halves. Four days on a 5,000-acre working hacienda beneath an active volcano bring a tandem skydive with the volcano in view, a mezcal cocktail class and a lakeside picnic. Then the coast, on a 30,000-acre nature reserve with its own shoreline and three beaches: whale watching, horseback riding past zebras on the plains and an ATV ride to a picnic on a hidden beach. Luxury at both ends, with adventure in between.
A first post-COVID trip with a 16-year-old, built around specific criteria: direct flight, complete privacy, and enough adventure to make up for two years at home.
This was our first planned trip after COVID lockdowns, and we needed somewhere that could absorb disruption without derailing everything. A direct flight to limit exposure and complexity, the option to self-drive or hire a private driver so we weren't dependent on group logistics, and complete privacy if necessary. We also had a 16-year-old who had spent enough time staring at bedroom walls and had no interest in spending a week on a beach chair. Adventure programming that would actually land with him was non-negotiable. We found a set of sister properties that checked every box.
