Mallorca (Banyalbufar, Port de Sóller & Palma)
A week on Mallorca built around three stays, each on a different part of the island. A clifftop estate in the Serra de Tramuntana starts slowly, with beekeeping, estate walks and wine tastings above the coast. From a harbour-front hotel in Port de Sóller, the road switchbacks down to the sea and the vintage tram runs into town. Palma comes last, with a cliff walk on the east coast on the way in, the old city on a Sunday morning and dinner on a rooftop beside the cathedral.
A 25th anniversary trip planned around the stays, chosen for their settings, character and variety.
It was our 25th wedding anniversary. My husband had done our 20th, so it was my turn to plan. A friend had been to Mallorca and spoke so well of it, and I knew of others heading there. We had some parameters: my husband could be away for about a week, but we were fine with a connection, and didn't mind a time zone change. I planned the whole trip around where I wanted to stay, not around what I thought we should do. Once I knew the island wasn't massive, I figured day trips would sort the rest out.
