Ireland
Kinsale, Kerry, Dingle, Dromoland, Clare & Connemara
A road trip around Ireland's southwest and west, from the coastal rings of Beara and Kerry to two castle stays with falconry and fly fishing at the end. On the Dingle Peninsula there's sea-cliff climbing, and a boat heads out to Skellig Michael, the Star Wars island, with its monks' stone beehive huts. Small towns and harbour guesthouses fill the drive, the Cliffs of Moher come on the way north, and in a pink-painted pub on a harbour, one evening turns into dancing with strangers.
A multigenerational road trip with two fixed points, a memorial to ancestors lost on the Lusitania and Skellig Michael for the boys, and castle stays toward the end.
Ireland was a multigenerational family road trip with two fixed points that shaped everything else: the Lusitania Museum and Old Head Signal Tower near Kinsale, where ancestors lost in the 1915 sinking are commemorated by name, and Skellig Michael for the boys to see a unique Star Wars filming location. We wanted to bridge the road trip format with some longer stays toward the end.
